Before You Apply for an OT Compact Privilege
Read this page carefully.
Within your OTC application, you will provide a legally binding attestation that you read and understand each state’s OT Laws, Rules, and Practice Act/Scope of Practice in which you apply to practice. You will also provide a legally binding attestation that you have already completed any jurisprudence requirements, as applicable. This webpage provides you access to information related to each state’s laws and jurisprudence requirements. If you have specific questions about a state’s requirements or when they plan to accept OTC applications, please reach out directly to that state’s OT licensing board (hyperlinked to state name).
The OTC application process requires you to choose a “home state license” (HSL), which is defined in law as your “primary state of residence” and a member of the OTC (OTC Legislation Sec.2.Definitions.J). Each time you renew your HSL, you will need to purchase a new OTC privilege to practice in all of the states in which you plan to practice. Your OTC privilege(s) to practice expire when your HSL expires. If you practice in a state with an expired OTC privilege to practice, you are subject to that state licensing board’s authority and accountability.
